Greater Victoria romance con artist wanted for breaching court conditions

A man convicted in a widespread romance fraud case is now wanted for breaching his court-ordered conditions.
Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers issued a social media post on April 28 urging Brodie Brooks to turn himself in to Saanich Police
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to contact police, or provide an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
The search comes after he pleaded guilty to defrauding 14 people, primarily women, through online dating platforms.
The scheme saw him steal more than $90,000 by building relationships and convincing victims to send money under false pretences.
“This person was highly manipulative and deceptive in his scheme,” Const. Markus Anastasiades said in a Saanich Police press release issued in 2023.
The case dates back to an investigation launched in the fall of 2019.
Police arrested him on June 19, 2023, after discovering he used various dating apps over three years to connect with people and obtain money through deception.
He would limit contact with the victims once they asked for the money back.
Police continue to warn the public to never send money to someone they have only met online, no matter the circumstances. Residents are advised to never share personal or financial information with someone they just met, to report suspicious activity to the platform where contact was made, and to end the conversation immediately if asked for funds.
Saanich Police told Saanich News that they had no additional comment at this time.
