The victim of a serious hit-and-run crash is still recovering in hospital after waking up from an induced coma, and police are searching for the driver who hit him in Brampton.

“His recovery could take years and we don’t know what that will look like,” says the family of Dylan Moss, who was hit by multiple vehicles while walking to his job as a welder in Brampton on April 13.

The 28-year-old was crossing the intersection of Bovaird Drive and McLaughlin Road around 5 a.m. when he was struck by a Toyota RAV4 travelling northbound on McLaughlin making a right-hand turn onto Bovaird, Peel Regional Police say.

But police say the victim was also hit by two other passing vehicles, and that the driver of the RAV4 “stopped briefly” before fleeing the scene.

Moss was rushed to hospital where family members say he spent a week in an induced coma with a breathing tube, and had to undergo “brain surgery, two pelvic reconstructive surgeries, and a host of invasive procedures.”

His condition has since been upgraded and Moss is breathing on his own, but the family says every day brings complications and unknowns, and that his recovery “could take years and we don’t know what that will look like.”

A GoFundMe page has been launched by the family to help pay bills and “that he will be able to return to the life that he built and loves”

“Every single thing in Dylan’s world has changed in an instant,” reads a fundraiser started to help support the Moss family and Dylan’s recovery, adding that he “will be dealing with the repercussions of being the innocent victim of this crime in every way – physically, emotionally, and legally,” the fundraiser website reads.

Police are asking any motorists or bystanders who were in the area of Bovaird Drive and McLaughlin Road between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on April 13 to review dash‑camera or cellphone footage for possible sightings of the suspect vehicle.
