‘Marilyn’ cocktail toasts founder of Surrey’s Northview golf courses

Bartenders at Northview Golf and Country Club will serve new cocktail in honour of the late Marilyn Stewart, course founder, philanthropist “and someone who truly knew how to enjoy a great cocktail.”
Stewart and husband Chick opened the Surrey golf courses in 1994, and both have since passed.
“On May 17, what would have been her 90th birthday, we celebrate Marilyn’s passion, energy, and spirit — qualities that helped shape who we are today and continue to be felt throughout our club,” course operators say in an e-newsletter.
“In her honour, we’ve created a special cocktail to mark the occasion. If you’re joining us, we invite you to raise a glass and toast to Marilyn — a remarkable woman who left a lasting impression on all of us.”
Served at Duffey’s Sports Grill, the Marilyn Stewart cocktail is made with Empress elderflower rose gin, elderflower liqueur, lemon and foamer.
Marilyn Stewart died in 2014 at age 78. She was a driving force behind Czorny Alzheimer Centre, built on 66 Avenue land donated by the Stewarts, who operated S&R Sawmills in Port Kells.
Donald “Chick” Stewart died in 2023 at age 95. In 2017 he wrote a compelling autobiography, It Can Be Done: An Ordinary Man’s Extraordinary Success, about his days as a lumber baron and other adventures in life.
