A man is facing murder charges after two young children were found dead in a vehicle just steps from a Calgary police station on Thursday.

Court records confirm a 37‑year‑old man has been charged with two counts of first‑degree murder after the bodies were found in an SUV parked on 14 Street NW, just north of John Laurie Boulevard, around 10 a.m.

Emergency crews were called after a tip about a vehicle parked across from the Calgary Police Service’s District 3 station.

Inside the back seat, officers found two children under the age of 10. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

A man was arrested outside the vehicle shortly after police arrived.

Court documents indicate the children were killed on or about Wednesday.

Officials have not confirmed the relationship between the accused and the victims. A publication ban prevents the children from being identified.

The suspect made a brief court appearance Friday morning. He is scheduled to return to court next week for a bail hearing.
