Have a favourite memory of Newton Wave Pool?

Share yours to celebrate the pool’s 40th anniversary in 2027.

The only wave pool in Surrey, the pool at Newton Recreation Centre was a very big deal when it opened in 1987.

“From swim lessons and birthday parties to family traditions, we’re inviting the community to share the stories that made this place special,” says a post on Recreation Surrey’s Facebook page.

The website surrey.ca/newtonpool has been created as a portal for Newton Wave Pool memories and photos.

“Did you meet someone important here? Celebrate a milestone? Return years later with your own children? However big or small, your memories help tell the story of what Newton Wave Pool has meant to our community,” the website says.

Submissions may be featured in City of Surrey communications including online content, social media and materials celebrating upcoming milestones. “Not all submissions will be published, but every story helps shape how we honour the past and look to the future.”

Newton Wave Pool features water slides, a fortress structure with cannons and jets, tot pool, hot tub and steam room.

In four years the facility will compete for pool-goers with a 50-metre swimming pool planned at Newton Community Centre, a $310-million project to be built south of Newton Arena.

Back in March 2022, Newton’s wave pool reopened after a two-year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
