Crews have broken ground at what will be the future site of Brampton’s first French-language Catholic high school, with space for more than 400 students.
The new 63,000 square foot school is being built on a 10.7-acre lot at the intersection of Veterans Drive and Creditview Road in Brampton, operated by the Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir school board.
The board says the land subdivision process is underway, and in March said it was awaiting a response from the Ministry of Education regarding the request for additional funding.
Shovels officially went into the ground at the site last week, and Brampton MPP Amarjot Sandhu said the province “is investing $43.8M, including $27.5M in additional funding, to create 410 new student spaces for local families.”
Sandhu didn’t say when the province expected the school to open.
The land was purchased in 2023, and planning documents show the school will be a two-storey, 5,866 square-metre “regional” secondary school, supporting “students from a wide geographic area, resulting in over 90 (per cent) of students being bussed.”
