A’ja Wilson, regarded by many as one of the best female basketball players of her generation and one of the greatest WNBA players ever, achieved another first this evening. Wilson made her Met Gala debut on Monday night. The four-time WNBA MVP arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, dressed for the “Costume Art” theme in a textured, metallic gown with draped sleeves by Prabal Gurung.

WNBA fans are already familiar with Wilson’s love for fashion and her stylish looks in what have become known as “tunnel fits,” the high-fashion, curated outfits that athletes wear while walking from the team bus to the locker room. Wilson recently talked to Vogue about how tunnel fits help promote the WNBA in a new way. “Tunnel ’fits changed our whole league,” she said. “It brought a different audience and set of eyes to us.”

That said, Wilson, a three-time WNBA champion with the Las Vegas Aces, never forgets her priorities. “There’s plenty of times where I’ve told my stylist, ‘I ain’t doing this. I need to pour into this scouting report before I put on a pair of heels,’” she told the magazine. “People should understand how powerful it is to walk into a game in heels, crush it, and put those heels back on. That is so powerful. That is women and I love that for us.”
Wilson is also a member of the 2026 Met Gala host committee, making this the second year in a row that a WNBA player is on the committee, followed by Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese in 2025. Last year’s guest list also included New York Liberty players Jonquel Jones, Sabrina Ionescu, and Breanna Stewart.
