The REM’s newest branch — connecting the West Island to the rest of the network — will be free for its opening weekend on May 16 and 17.
People who want to try the REM can hop on at any of the four new stations: Des Sources, Fairview–Pointe-Claire, Kirkland and Anse-à-l’Orme and ride the trains for free.
The REM will run on the new line between 6 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. both days — but it will only be free between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Come enjoy the view from one of the longest elevated structures in Canada and get your REM passport stamped!” says a media release on the REM’s website. “Be sure to stop by the refreshing lemonade stand located just outside Anse-à-l’Orme station.”
Access to the other stations on the Deux‑Montagnes and South Shore branches will be subject to regular fares.
Bikes and pets won’t be allowed on the REM during opening weekend “due to the anticipated high level of ridership.”
For information about getting to each station, check the REM’s website.
The REM website says to plan for about one and a half hours if you want to visit all four new stations on the Anse-à-l’Orme line and return to your destination. There also may be lineups on opening weekend.
