A 40-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges after police say a confrontation over a deceased kitten in a downtown apartment complex escalated into an assault with a weapon.
Winnipeg police say that at around 11 p.m. on May 2, a 43-year-old woman heard sounds consistent with a cat in distress in her apartment complex in the 400 block of William Avenue. She went to investigate and discovered a deceased kitten in the hallway.
She confronted a 40-year-old man who also lived in the same building, whom she believed was responsible for the animal’s death.
The suspect then threw a kitchen knife at the woman. It did not strike her, and no injuries were reported.
Officers attended the scene and took the suspect into custody. They also seized a knife during the arrest.
The man is facing charges of assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, and killing or injuring animals.
He was released on an undertaking.
