Volunteers needed for BC Lions games, festival in Kelowna

Kelowna will feel the roar of the BC Lions this summer, but not without the help of local volunteers.

Because of the 2026 World Cup, the Lions chose to relocate to Kelowna for two of their regular season CFL games this season, and will need a team of volunteers to support the matches as well as the Touchdown Kelowna Festival.

Touchdown Kelowna Volunteer Director Kevin Parnell says Kelowna has great volunteer spirit and is looking forward to building the team that will support the 9-day event.

“We are looking for people who want to jump on board to support this historic sporting event for the City of Kelowna,” said Parnell

“Having regular season CFL games in Kelowna is going to be incredible and to be able to work the games and the festival in a volunteer role will be a tremendous experience for everyone involved.”

Touchdown Kelowna will take place from June 27 to July 4, during which, the Lions will take on the Calgary Stampeders on June 27 and the Edmonton Elks on July 3.

Events outside the game include a kick-off concert by Canadian folk singer Alan Doyle, followed by the Flip Flop Gala and the Boots on the Beach concert featuring The Road Hammers.

There will also be a fanfest event that includes breakfast with the Lions, Canada Day celebrations, a fan march and daily activities at Waterfront Park.

Volunteers who sign up will get a recognition package for their work, which will include a choice of tickets to a BC Lions game on Sept. 12 or to the Boots on the Beach concert July 3.
