The Mahogany Homeowners Association says it is mourning the loss of a child following an incident at a southeast Calgary lake over the weekend.  

“The Mahogany Homeowners Association is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a child at Mahogany Lake,” Sally Lockhart, General Manager, said in a statement.   

She extended condolences to the family.  

“Our hearts are with the child’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.  “On behalf of our organization, I extend our sincere condolences as we hold the child and their family in our thoughts.”

On May 3, at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Calgary Fire Department was called to Mahogany Lake after reports that a youth had entered the water and failed to resurface.  

The youth was pulled from the water by rescuers from a depth of over six meters, and taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition.  

Officials say the youth had been playing basketball before jumping off a dock into the lake.
