The Town of Winnipeg Beach is at a temporary standstill when it comes to official council business.
Councillor Doug Jarvis resigned on April 30, leaving the town council without enough members to meet quorum requirements.
As a result, council is unable to hold official meetings or pass decisions.
Province steps in
The Province of Manitoba has been notified of the situation and is expected to appoint a new administrator in the near future to oversee the town’s operations under The Municipal Act.
Once that process is in place, the remaining council members, including Mayor Stan Potten, will be deemed to have resigned and will be required to step down, allowing for a reset of municipal governance.
What happens next
Officials say the situation is being monitored closely, and updates will be shared with the public as they become available.
In the meantime, the town is thanking residents for their patience during the process.
A municipal election will take place on July 24, where a new mayor and council will be elected.
