Montreal police are investigating after a body was discovered near a river’s shore in the West Island Thursday morning.

Police say they received a 911 call at around 10:35 a.m. about a body on the shores of the Rivière des Prairies in the Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève borough.

The discovery was made near the corner of Gouin Boulevard and Saint-Jean Boulevard.

Police say a security perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to analyze the scene.

They do also say, however, that the investigation will be transferred to the coroner’s office to determine the cause of death and the identity of the deceased.

In late March, two young men fell into the Rivière-des-Prairies.

The 17-year-old was quickly rescued. But the 18-year-old, Hassoun Choui, has been missing since.
