From a young football player in Strathmore to a drafted CFL prospect, Jack Warrack’s football journey has been years in the making, and his former coach has been there to watch it unfold.
Danny Warrack, head coach of the Strathmore High School Spartans, coached Jack from Grade 10 through Grade 12. He is also Jack’s cousin.
On April 28, the Calgary Stampeders selected Jack with the 71st overall pick in the 2026 CFL Canadian Draft.
“He’s the first person I’ve coached that’s getting a crack at the CFL,” Danny said. “They might get a guy who’s going to turn into one heck of a player one day.”
Danny described Jack as a tough and disciplined athlete who stood out early in his high school career.
In Grade 10, Jack earned the team’s Rookie of the Year award and continued developing despite interruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“By the time he got to Grade 10, I had a pretty good idea, just seeing how he did at the high school level, that he would get a shot to play university football,” Danny said.
In Grade 12, Jack was named the Strathmore High Male Athlete of the Year.

After graduating from high school, Jack joined the Saskatchewan Huskies football program at the University of Saskatchewan.
According to Huskie Athletics, Jack started all 12 games in his freshman season and was named Canada West rookie of the year in 2022. He later earned conference all-star status in 2024.
“He ended up starting every game, which is really rare at the U Sports level,” Danny said.
Jack was later named Canada West Rookie of the Year and earned a conference all-star selection in 2024.
He also competed in two Vanier Cup championship games during his university career.
Danny said Jack’s success shows what young athletes from Strathmore can accomplish.
“He’s one of the younger offensive linemen in the draft,” he said. “You can go somewhere with football in this town, and Jack’s proved that.”
