UPDATE: Impaired driving suspected in Hwy 1 crash, 2 people sent to hospital

West Shore RCMP say impaired driving is suspected in a collision that closed the Trans Canada Highway on Friday (May 8) at around 12:26 a.m.
Officers responded to a report of a serious collision involving two vehicles, a 2000 Subaru Outback and a 2012 Cadillac SRX. The collision occurred on the Trans Canada Highway near Finlayson Arm Rd.
According to the RCMP, the driver of the Cadillac was “displaying signs and symptoms of suspected impairment.” An impaired driving investigation is underway.
The collision resulted in serious life-threatening injuries to the driver of the Subaru, who was taken to hospital by paramedics. The driver of the Cadillac was also taken to the hospital for injuries.
The RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service was called out to the scene. The northbound lanes of the Trans Canada Highway between West Shore Parkway and Aspen Rd were shut down from approximately 12:30 a.m. to 7:10 a.m.
The Highway 1 closure was between West Shore Parkway and Wellswood Road after an earlier crash in the Goldstream Park area.
