Heads up Langford: RCAF aircraft to fly over for military soccer match

Before Pacific FC kicks off its Voyageurs Cup campaign, soccer fans will turn their eyes away from the turf and to the sky.
Two Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft will fly over Starlight Stadium on May 9, at approximately 4 p.m., as part of the club’s Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation game.
A CC-295 Kingfisher from 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron at 19 Wing Comox, and a from 443 Maritime Helicopter Squadron at CFB Esquimalt, will fly at an altitude no lower than 500 feet above the highest obstacle on their route.
“Flybys by Royal Canadian Air Force aircraft are carefully planned and closely controlled for public safety, and are dependent upon weather and flying conditions,” notes a news release.
Over 100 Canadian Armed Forces members and veterans from across Vancouver Island will be in the stands for the Pacific FC showdown against Calgary-based Cavalry FC.
The CC-295 Kingfisher is Canada’s newest fixed-wing search and rescue aircraft, specifically designed to perform search and rescue missions across Canada.
The CH-148 Cyclone is Canada’s ship-borne maritime helicopter, providing air support to the Royal Canadian Navy.
