Toronto police say a man in his 40s is dead after a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle in Scarborough on Sunday evening.
In a post to social media, the Toronto Police Service said officers responded to multiple reports in the area of Orton Park Road and Ellesmere Road shortly after 6 p.m.
In an update to social media, Toronto police said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Insp. Jeff Allington said the motorcycle and a second vehicle were travelling north on Orton Park Road. They made contact with each other, resulting in the motorcyclist losing control and striking a tree, he said.
The driver of the second vehicle, who remained at the scene, did not suffer any injuries, the officer said.
Allington added that investigators are unsure at this time if speed played a role, but it will be a factor in the ongoing investigation.
Toronto Fire and paramedics were also on the scene, police said.
Toronto paramedics told CBC Toronto they assessed one adult patient but would not be transporting them to hospital.
Orton Park Road is closed both ways between Slan Avenue and Ellesmere Road.
Toronto police are asking anyone with information or footage to contact them.
