The 35-year-old Mosley Jr. handled Bohachuk’s aggression well and repeatedly landed cleaner counters and combinations while Bohachuk’s punch output slowed.
The fight ended at 2:38 of Round 6 after Mosley Jr. dropped Bohachuk with a hard right hand before following up with sustained punches along the ropes, forcing the referee to stop the contest. The size advantage for Mosley Jr over Bohachuk was hard to ignore.
Mosley Jr. has fought as high as 168, and he was going up against a career 154-pounder in Bohachuk. It was the ideal match-up for him size-wise.
Bohachuk was covering up against the ropes, getting shelled nonstop by Mosley Jr. without throwing anything back. The referee, Thomas Taylor, opted to step in and stop the contest, given the defenseless nature of Serhii.
After the victory, Mosley Jr. reflected on his long path in boxing and the motivation that kept him in the sport despite growing up under the shadow of his Hall of Fame father, Shane Mosley.
“I wanted to do this sport for me,” Mosley Jr said afterward. “I told everybody when I was 15 years old, when I got punched in the nose and got a bloody nose, and I wanted to get back.
“This is the result of that. I get punched in the nose. I get punched in the face. What’s up? I’m here.”
Watching it back, the punch that really changed the fight was a shot behind the head from Mosley Jr. Bohachuk was bent forward, and the right hand from Mosley Jr. looked like it landed partly around the back/side of the head area before the follow-up attack.
That likely contributed to Bohachuk suddenly losing his legs the way he did. One couldn’t call it illegal because Bohachuk was bent forward, but it appeared to be a factor.
