Cochrane’s Sarah Wozniewicz netted her biggest goal of the season, opening the scoring as the Ottawa Charge punched their ticket back to the PWHL Walter Cup Final with a 4-3 double-overtime win over the Boston Fleet last night.
The Ottawa rookie redirected a power-play shot from Fanuza Kadirova at 6:58 of the first period to give Ottawa an early lead in front of a raucous crowd of 11,297 at the Canadian Tire Centre. It marked a key early moment in a game that would turn into a marathon.
Boston responded with a flurry in the second period, scoring three goals in just over a minute and a half to briefly take control, but Ottawa answered to keep the game alive. Brooke Hobson tied it 3-3 later in the middle frame, setting up a tense finish.
After a scoreless third period and a hard-fought first overtime, Michela Cava ended it 1:12 into double overtime, finishing a feed from Kateřina Mrázová to seal the 4-3 victory and the series 3-1.
The win sends Ottawa to the Walter Cup Final for a second straight season, where they will face either Montréal Victoire or Minnesota Frost. That series has gone the distance, with the Game 5 decider being played tonight at Place Bell in Laval.
