RICHMOND, Ky. — Jacob King of Boyle County Rebels won the 12th Region boys singles championship Friday at Eastern Kentucky University.

King defeated Owen Willoughby of Casey County Rebels 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) in the championship match to capture his first regional title.

King, a junior who reached the round of 16 in last year’s regional tournament, is one of five area players who qualified for the KHSAA State Tennis Tournament May 20 and 26-27 in Lexington by advancing to the regional semifinals.

Anna Watson of Danville Admirals won two matches without dropping a game and added another straight-sets victory in the quarterfinals before falling to Piper Harris of Pulaski County Maroons in a third-set super tiebreaker in the semifinals.

Karmen Cundiff and Julia King of Casey County lost in straight sets to a Pulaski County doubles team in the semifinals.
