A small park in Mississauga is poised to officially get a name that was first proposed in the 1980s.
The park, at Water Street and Church Street in Streetsville, has existed for many years but is new under the City of Mississauga’s Parks and Forestry Division.
The city’s Heritage Advisory Committee is revisiting a plan to name the space Red Rundle Park to honour Chester “Red” Rundle, who lived across from the park and maintained the property for many years. He added a windmill and decorative rocks.
Rundle died in 1996, and in 2013, Heritage Mississauga unveiled a plaque dedicated to him on the property.
“This garden and green space was lovingly maintained by Red,” Heritage Mississauga said.
Rundle was an active community supporter and volunteer firefighter.
An original recommendation for a new park with the name ‘Red Rundle’ was first brought forward and approved in the 1980s, but not enacted, the report to the Heritage Advisory Committee said.
Staff is seeking to renew this previous recommendation under the current iteration of the Heritage Advisory Committee.
The proposal will be posted on the city’s website for 30 days as per the new asset naming procedure.
