This concludes our live page coverage of the double homicide of two teenagers in Surrey Sunday night. CBC News will continue to follow this story as it evolves.
To recap: Two male teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were shot and killed in an underground parking garage in the Newton neighbourhood of Surrey just after 10 p.m. PT Sunday night.
IHIT said on Monday that the pair, despite their young ages, had previous contact with police due to their connections to organized crime.
A burnt-out vehicle that is believed to be connected to the shooting has been recovered, and police say the homicides are believed to be part of B.C.’s ongoing gang war.
No suspects have been arrested.
The killings, combined with the non-fatal shootings of two men outside a gas station early Sunday morning, were described as “deeply troubling” by Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke.
Locke has called for an immediate review of a decision last month to redeploy members of the SPS gang unit to staff Surrey’s Cloverdale district.
CBC News has reached out to the Surrey Police Board, which oversees the SPS, for comment.
