A 16-year-old Brampton boy has been charged with second-degree murder after an altercation in Oshawa on Saturday, Durham Region police say.
Police responded to reports of an armed person near Simcoe Street N. and Winchester Road E. at approximately 8:10 p.m., police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
They located one man suffering “traumatic injuries,” who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said two groups of men had a physical altercation outside of a Tim Hortons in the area. The suspect, along with several other men, fled on foot, they said.
The 23-year-old’s death marks Durham Region’s third homicide this year.
Air and K9 units assisted in a search for the suspects but no one was located, said police.
In a news release Monday, police said the suspect turned himself in.
Investigators are urging anyone who was in the area between 7:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. with information or footage to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
