Fifth annual event has raised over $70,000 to date for local mental health initiatives
Cameco’s fifth annual Blind River Charity Golf Tournament is coming up fast, on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Huron Pines Golf & Country Club in Blind River.
“All of the funds raised from this tournament benefit the Cameco Fund for Mental Health,” said Terry Davis, General Manager of Cameco’s Blind River Refinery. “Since our tournament’s inception in 2022 we have raised over $70,000 for mental health programs and initiatives in the Blind River area.”
All monies raised from the tournament will be distributed through the Cameco Fund for Mental Health, to organizations undertaking projects that promote or protect mental health in Blind River and area. “Last year, the Blind River Cameco Charity Golf Tournament, participants and sponsors raised $23,000 for local mental health initiatives. The funds benefited five local grant recipients including the Huron Shores Family Health Team, W.C. Eaket, Esc. Jeunesse-Nord, and St. Mary’s schools,” said Davis.
Following the event each year, Cameco puts out a call for applications. Groups and organizations can then apply to the Cameco Fund for Mental Health, established through the Saskatoon Community Foundation, and adjudicated by a panel of Cameco representatives and local mental health experts.
Spaces for this year’s golf tournament are still available at $145 per player which includes golf, dinner, and amazing prizes. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, and Cameco is also accepting donations to the fund, with all proceeds supporting local mental health initiatives, according to the spokesperson.
“Fundraising for mental health continues even on the day of the event,” added Davis. “While every participant receives a chance to win the door prize with their registration, they also have the option to purchase additional tickets for great raffle prizes, plus mulligan cards, 50/50 tickets and they can even test their skills in a putting challenge, all to raise funds for mental health supports in our community.”
Davis believes that promoting mental health in the community is essential for long-term emotional well-being, social stability, and public health.
“Promoting mental health in our community isn’t just important, it’s the key to helping people feel good, building a strong and resilient community, and helping to keep everyone healthy for the long run,” said Davis.
