Backbeat, a radio show produced in Orillia and heard on community stations across Canada and the U.S., has again been recognized by the National Community Radio Association (NCRA), this time for Blues or Similar Music Show of the Year.
This is the second such award for Backbeat, the first being for Best Music Variety Show in 2023.
The show, which is created and hosted by Orillian Lorne VanSinclair, is not a blues show as such, it features what Lorne calls “Vintage American Popular Music”.
The blues underpins it all and, as the NCRA recognized, it is the mix of cultures; Celtic, Latino, Polynesian, Indigenous, European and Caribbean with African American music that makes it unique. It’s not all about past music; Lorne also includes new recordings by artists who honour that heritage.
