The Dallas Wings opened the season by passing their first test. Paige Bueckers led Dallas to a 107-104 win over the Indiana Fever. Bueckers paced the offense with 20 points and four assists on 8-10 shooting. Arike Ogunbowale (22 points and five assists) and Odyssey Sims (20 points) also scored over 20 points in the season-opener. The next test for this young Dallas team is the Atlanta Dream, who also opened up the season with a thrilling win. Allisha Gray picked up right where she left off last season with 24 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. Angel Reese made her Atlanta debut with 11 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Atlanta came from behind on the road in the second half after trailing 52-37. The starting group of Gray, Reese, Naz Hillman, Jordin Canada, and Rhyne Howard combined for 77 points and 37 rebounds. Rookie Madina Okot came off the bench for eight points and four rebounds.

After being upset in the first round of the playoffs last season, Atlanta made some roster adjustments to get younger and more athletic. Reese replaces Brittney Griner. Okot adds even more depth.

Dallas finished with the worst combined record in the WNBA over the last two seasons. That led to them drafting Bueckers and Azzi Fudd first overall in back-to-back drafts. Fudd opened the season with three points on 1-2 shooting off the bench in her debut.
