Real estate agent Umar Hayat is taking another crack at unseating an incumbent Winnipeg mayor.
Eight years after unsuccessfully challenging Brian Bowman, Hayat has registered to run for mayor. Scott Gillingham is seeking his second term.
Hayat finished sixth in the 2018 mayoral election, receiving 2,229 votes.
He also ran for the provincial Liberals in 2023, finishing third in the McPhillips constituency with 886 votes. Jasdeep Devgan won that constituency for the NDP.
Joining Hayat and Gillingham on the Oct. 28 mayoral ballot so far are funeral director Mike Vogiatzakis and grocery clerk Chris Clacio.
The deadline to register for the municipal election is Sept. 22.
