After days of strong winds and dust storms across southern Manitoba, calmer conditions are expected for the May long weekend — but cooler temperatures and scattered rain showers are now moving into the forecast.
“The winds will finally taper down this evening,” says Kayla Bilous, meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada (EC). “After that, we shouldn’t see much more strong winds for the rest of the weekend.”
While the wind warnings will be over heading into the May long weekend, the weather is expected to be cooler than normal.
“Unfortunately, the forecast for Winnipeg doesn’t look too great. It is May long, and we’re pretty known for some rainy weather, and that’s what we’re in store for.”
Wet weekend in store
Starting Sunday morning, EC is expecting intermittent rain showers throughout the day, anywhere between five and 10 mm.
“It doesn’t look like we should get too much in terms of accumulation. More showery and convective, which means it could be spotty.”
The normal temperature for this time of year is a high of 20 degrees Celsius. However, Saturday’s high is 12 and Sunday’s rainy weather will bring a high of 10. On holiday Monday, more rain is expected with a high of only eight degrees.
