UP Express trains won’t run this long weekend between Union Station in downtown Toronto and Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga due to planned construction, transit officials said Friday in an online reminder to the public.

In place of the trains, GO buses will move passengers directly between Union Station and Canada’s biggest and busiest airport throughout the weekend, starting Friday night and continuing through end of day on Monday, May 18.

The replacement buses will not make the usual train stops in between those two points, only moving riders between Terminal 1 at the airport and the Union Station bus terminal via express point-to-point service. So, the GO buses will not stop at Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston stations.

Some additional service adjustments are also in effect for Friday night in advance of the holiday weekend, transit officials said. Those using UP Express are urged to check online for such service changes.

The 23.3-kilometre Union Pearson Express route is being shut down this weekend for planned construction related to the future Woodbine and St. Clair-Old Weston GO stations, transit officials said.

When service is operating normally, the UP Express runs trains every 15 minutes daily until 1 a.m. between downtown Toronto and Pearson.

Officials at Metrolinx, the provincial agency that oversees GO Transit, said earlier the express train service “has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers” since its inception in 2015 (numbers as of early 2025).

In what at the time was the “first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America,” the UP Express took its first passengers between Pearson and Union Station in downtown Toronto on June 6, 2015, Ontario transit officials said earlier.
