Alberta and Ottawa sign new carbon pricing deal, detail pipeline plans

The federal government and Alberta signed a new carbon pricing agreement that paves the way for a new pipeline from the oil sands to the B.C. coast. The agreement, signed by Prime Minister Mark Carney and Alberta Premier Danielle Smith builds on November’s memorandum of understanding. Alberta will submit a proposal for a new pipeline to the major projects office by July 1, and design and construction may start as early as Sept.1, 2027.
