Chip stocks traded lower in regular trading Friday as investors locked in gains from the sector’s artificial-intelligence rally, while a hotter-than-expected inflation report pressured technology shares.

MU and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSM) all declined during the session.
The broader semiconductor sector weakened after fresh consumer price index data raised concerns that inflation may remain elevated for longer. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell more than 3% as traders reduced exposure to high-growth AI-related companies.
Marvell dropped more than 5% in morning trading, while NVIDIA and AMD each fell about 3%.
Investors also continued monitoring U.S.-China tensions tied to advanced AI chip exports. NVIDIA recently said its China-focused AI chips still have not received approval for commercial sales in the country.
Despite Friday’s decline, analysts continue to point to strong long-term demand from AI infrastructure spending by Amazon, Microsoft, Alphabet and Meta Platforms as a potential support for semiconductor companies.
