ROSES AND ROTTEN TOMATOES: Rotten tomatoes to the watering scofflaws in Surrey
Published 7:00 am Saturday, May 16, 2026
• Buckets full of rotten tomatoes to many of our neighbours who continue to pressure wash their houses and driveways during Stage 2 water restrictions. They wait till the weekend when bylaw officers are off duty or after 5 p.m. when they think no one is watching. We can see you and hear you, and you are disgraceful. June 1 we will go to Stage 3. The big magical tap with all the water will run dry sooner than later with abuse.
• Rotten Tomatoes: With the new water restrictions, we can no longer water my plants and trees with the hose after 9:00 a.m., but I can drive to a car wash and power wash my vehicle any time.
• Rotten Tomatoes to MLA Mike Farnworth and Premier David Eby – where are you now that we have major gang problems in Surrey? If the voters of Surrey had been given a referendum (on policing transition), we would not be in this mess of gang violence.
• Rotten Tomatoes to the person who wrote to this column stating the seniors’ rate at Surrey Parks and Recreation starts at age 70 for not doing their research. It actually starts at age 60 and is comparable to the student rate which is normal. Then at age 70, seniors get an additional discount! They probably just got angry at a front desk or on the phone, got mad at an employee and then complained to this newspaper. The Rotten Tomatoes can be shared by the Surrey Leader-Now for posting this erroneous and misleading information.
• Tomatoes to the group of adults that let two young boys jump the fence at Hawthorne Park and start to throw rocks at the ducks. I asked the boys to go back over the fence and not to throw rocks at the ducks. The fence is there for a reason. The boys did retreat, though as soon as I walked on again they jumped the fence. Boys will be boys, and this time I mentioned that the fence was also there for the boys protection. Could they swim? Shame on the onlookers who said nothing. Have respect for our parks, learn the rules.
