A tiny overnight guest found safety at a Winnipeg fire station after local residents discovered a baby goose alone in their backyard.
The United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg shared the heartwarming story on social media, explaining that residents brought the gosling to one of the city’s fire stations Friday evening after they were unsure how to help the bird.
According to the post, the fire department’s dispatch centre contacted Manitoba Conservation, but officers were unable to arrive until the following morning.
In the meantime, firefighters stepped in to care for the young bird through the night.
Crews built a small nest for the gosling, checked on it regularly, and even took turns cuddling the bird while it waited for conservation officers to arrive.
“This job isn’t all smoke and fire,” the post reads. “Sometimes it’s taking care of a baby goose who had a very big night!”
The social media post quickly drew positive reactions online, with many commenters praising the firefighters for their compassion and care.
