The Las Vegas Aces dominated the Connecticut Sun 98-69 on Wednesday at Mohegan Sun Arena, owning the paint with a massive 58-34 edge and then stretched things out to 36 at one point. But the biggest talking point of the night was A’ja Wilson, who once again delivered a performance that felt impossible to ignore. The four-time WNBA MVP exploded for 45 points in the Aces’ 101-94 win over the Sun on Friday, putting together one of the most efficient scoring nights of her career.
Wilson went 15-of-18 from the floor, knocked down both of her three-pointers, and stayed perfect from the free-throw line by hitting all 13 attempts. That performance also gave her the fifth 40-point game of her career, the most in WNBA history, moving her past Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi. Her personal best still sits at 53 points, a total she dropped against Atlanta on August 22, 2023.

A’ja Wilson Shares The Secret Behind Her Efficient Scoring Night
A’ja Wilson wasn’t just piling up points, she was doing it exactly the way she wanted. “Finding shots in our system and letting the flow of the game take over,” Wilson said. “That’s big to me. I want to be efficient. It’s beautiful to rack up all these points, but to be efficient, that’s what is key.”
Aces coach Becky Hammon could only admire what she was seeing unfold. “She was unbelievable,” Hammon said. “Really happy with the free throws. The 3s, she just continued to sprinkle those in. She got a lot of early touches.”
Connecticut did make things interesting late in the third quarter after trimming a 13-point deficit down to 72-70, but Wilson immediately shut the door. Coming out of a timeout, she drilled a three-pointer before converting a three-point play on the next stretch, sparking a decisive 16-4 run for Las Vegas. “It wasn’t really designed to be like that,” Wilson said of her 3. “I was trying to take what the defense was giving me. (Raegan) Beers was playing a little bit off, so why not?”
Could This Have Been A’ja Wilson’s Final Game at Mohegan Sun Arena?
Mohegan Sun Arena has played a big part in A’ja Wilson’s career, and with the Connecticut Sun set to move to Houston next season, this may have been her final game there. “This building has been special to me for a while,” Wilson said. “Got my first WNBA point in this building and championship in this building. It’s fun coming here. … Going to miss this place.”
Chelsea Gray said Wilson’s brilliance still surprises everyone around her, even after years of watching it closely. “You can’t get bored with watching greatness,” the Aces’ star point guard said. “I’m around it all the time, but I’m surprised every day. I never want to get to the spot where I’m comfortable, like, yeah, that’s unheard of.”
