Riteish Deshmukh’s historical epic saga, Raja Shivaji, registered a 45 per cent spike on its 3rd Saturday from the previous day. The movie added Rs. 3 crore to the tally, bringing the total cume to Rs. 94.35 crore gross at the Indian box office. The movie is heading to make a sum of Rs. 8 crore in the 3rd weekend, which will take its total running cume to Rs. 98 crore. Raja Shivaji will cross the Rs. 100 crore mark at the Indian box office, possibly by the 3rd Tuesday.
The film is probably the highest-grossing film from the Marathi film industry, just that there is no absolute surety on the final numbers of Sairat. It is ahead of Baipan Bhari Deva, which grossed around Rs. 90 crore. When the film hits Rs. 100 crore, it will certainly be the top-grossing film from the industry, and that shall happen by Tuesday.
Having said that, both Sairat and Baipan Bhari Deva earned their monies almost entirely from Maharashtra state, whereas Raja Shivaji has a nearly Rs. 25 crore coming from outside Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, Raja Shivaji will likely stay below the two, and that’s what the core market really is, and that’s where it should have done record numbers as well. Of course, the expectations were for even higher as films like Tanhaji and Chhaava did extraordinary numbers in the state, the former adjusting to Rs. 250 crore today while the latter crossed Rs. 300 crore. Raja Shivaji won’t even reach Rs. 100 crore.
