Registration starts for RunSurreyRun, growing every year

Registration has launched for the 2026 RunSurreyRun, set for the morning of Saturday, Sept. 12 in Surrey City Centre.
RSR involves a kids’ run, 5K and 10K road races and virtual event.
“RunSurreyRun has quickly become a must-run event, drawing elite athletes and runners from across the Lower Mainland,” said Gurjinder K. Bhurji, founder and race director.
“This year, we’re building on that momentum with increased numbers, some new road closures, course improvements to allow more participants and a certified 10K course. With record participation expected for the fifth straight year, we’re incredibly thankful for the ongoing support from our community and amazing partners.”
Welcoming participants of all ages and abilities, from walkers to elite runners, RunSurreyRun celebrates active living while emphasizing family fun, with Holland Park as festival hub.
Following an “early bird” registration period, the next fee increase kicks in June 7.
Both the 5K and 10K courses are now Athletics Canada-certified, and the Central City 1K Kids Run has expanded to 100 participants for 2026.
“This year marks my third time racing RSR, and there’s nothing like running in your hometown,” says Ken Khalawa, founder of Surrey Big Five, a grassroots running collective founded in 2021.
“The energy and community spirit are incredible, and it’s that atmosphere that keeps me coming back every fall. The event is very authentic to Surrey’s unique culture and it’s truly something every local runner should experience.”
For those who prefer to avoid large crowds, a virtual race allows people to run or walk their own route at their convenience from Sept. 10-19.
A realtor in Surrey, Bhurji founded RunSurreyRun in 2019 after she began walking and jogging on a road to recovery from ill health.
“Always leading an active live, it was my own battle with illness, multiple surgeries and numerous blood transfusions that underscored the critical importance of health,” Bhurji explained.
“I was inspired to create a walk/run accessible to individuals of every age and ability in our City of Surrey,” she added. “With many major cities all over the world having a road race, the City of Surrey needed its own road race to accommodate other runners/walkers in our community.”
Registration on runsurreyrun.com includes finisher medal, $20 New Balance gift card (select items), RunSurreyRun sticker, chip-timed live results, certified course, post-race healthy snacks and refreshments, free photos, optional T-shirt, free shirts for Kids Run participants and more.
Until June 6, registration fees are $18.19 for Kids Run, $53.62 for 5K/10K events, $28.93 for the virtual race.
The event website includes 5K/10K course maps, volunteer sign-up, race results and other details.
