In an effort to shine a light on public works and park crews in Saanich, the district is inviting the public to the works yard site to learn about the role of public works and the impact they have on the community on a day-to-day basis.
Staff will tour visitors through the Saanich Operations Centre on Thursday, May 21 from 1 to 3 p.m., as part of National Public Works Week. Visitors will get to learn and ask questions about the public works system, from waterworks to street operations, parks to solid waste services.
“The service of public works in Saanich is rooted in supporting the health and vitality of our community. Our engineering, public works and parks teams are always balancing long-term planning with day-to-day response,” noted director of engineering Harley Machielse in a news release. “Whether maintaining core infrastructure, preparing for weather impacts or addressing urgent service needs, their work is vital and it’s important we take the time to thank them for their contributions.”
The event is free, and no reservations are required. To learn more about Public Works Week, visit www.saanich.ca/npww.
