LETTERS: Hey, Surrey drivers, ‘almost stopped’ is not a thing

At a four-way stop in South Surrey, I came to a complete stop and began to proceed when a brown pickup truck approaching from my left failed to stop and continued rolling through the intersection. I braked to avoid a collision. The driver carried on and offered an obscene hand gesture, apparently confident in both his timing and his interpretation of traffic law.
This is becoming routine: the “rolling stop,” where “stop” is treated as a suggestion rather than a requirement.
Four-way stops are simple. Stop completely, then proceed in order. The system depends on everyone agreeing that “almost stopped” is not a thing.
When that agreement disappears, intersections stop being predictable and start becoming guesswork.
This is not about impatience. It is about safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
