Police are seeking witnesses to a late-night collision over the weekend in which a Mississauga woman was struck and killed after stepping out of her SUV on Highway 401 in Toronto.
Ontario Provincial Police said the 40-year-old woman exited her vehicle moments after being involved in an initial collision with one other car shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Friday in the eastbound lanes of the busy highway east of Eglinton Avenue West.
“Following the initial collision, the driver of the SUV exited the vehicle and was subsequently struck in a secondary incident involving another passenger vehicle,” OPP said in a news release.
The woman was transported to hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, according to police.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 401 at Eglinton Avenue West were closed for several hours while police investigated.
Anyone with information or video footage of the incident is urged to call OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
