Former health and human services secretary Xavier Becerra recently nodded to reality on health care, and his Democratic rivals for California governor are pummeling him for it.
After decades of championing a single-payer system, Becerra reportedly told the California Medical Association that he’s not supportive at this point. His spokesman clarified that single payer remains “the right goal,” but President Donald Trump would never approve the state diverting funds for its implementation, so he plans to focus instead on shoring up Medicaid.
