Sony has announced the flagship WH-1000X The ColleXion headphones to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the WH-1000X series. The new products have received an updated design, a redesigned construction and an improved noise cancellation system.
The WH-1000X The ColleXion are based on the WH-1000XM6, but with a few tweaks. Sony has used the same synthetic leather body as the MDR-1000X, the first headphones in the series, introduced in 2016.
The headphones have wider and deeper earcups, an enlarged headband, and stainless steel metal hinges. However, like the WH-1000XM5, the model does not fold completely – the cups only rotate inward.
Sony has also added a new carrying case with a carrying handle and a dedicated button for switching spatial audio. The headphones support 360 Upmix with profiles for music, movies, and games.
The WH-1000X The ColleXion feature the same 30mm drivers as the XM6, but Sony says they use a new soft-edge driver design for better bass and more effective noise cancellation. The company has also redesigned the internal circuit board and used a thicker copper base to improve detail and soundstage width.
The headphones have 12 microphones, a QN3 Noise Canceling Processor, and a new integrated V3 chip for sound processing and ANC.
Sony claims up to 24 hours of battery life with active noise cancellation or up to 32 hours without ANC. For comparison, the WH-1000XM6 last up to 30 and 40 hours, respectively.
The WH-1000X The ColleXion will be available in black and white. The price is $649 – about $200 more than the WH-1000XM6 at launch.
