After his upcoming 22nd season in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers plans to hang up his cleats.
The longtime quarterback, 43, announced on Wednesday, May 20 that he will retire at the end of the 2026 season, finishing out his future Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rodgers shared the news during a press conference at the Steelers’ practice facility after he was asked if this would be his final season, saying simply, “Yes, this is it.”
The Super Bowl champion signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on Monday, worth up to $25 million, according to ESPN, his second season with the team. He previously played two years with the New York Jets and 17 with the Green Bay Packers.
Rodgers also said in the press conference that he had “some doubt” about returning for another NFL season, but talks with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, whom he also played under in Green Bay, Steelers general manager Omar Khan and his wife swayed him.
“I had a lot of conversations with Mike, Omar, for a while,” he said. “And you know, had a lot of conversations with my wife about it, after the [NFL] draft came to the conclusion that I wanted to play, I wanted to come back.”
