Gunshots were fired at the house of Arvinder Khosa, the newly elected head of Cricket Canada, in Surrey, British Columbia yesterday.

Shots were fired at the home of Arvinder Khosa, the newly elected head of Cricket Canada, on Wednesday morning in Surrey, British Columbia.

Khosa confirmed to CBC News that his house in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood was shot at but did not provide further details.

The outlet reported that at least five bullet holes were visible in the door, windows, and exterior of Khosa’s home.

Police said they responded to the incident at 4:40 am and confirmed that the house was occupied at the time of the shooting.

“An individual associated to the residence that was shot this morning has received extortion related threats,” police said.

Khosa previously linked to Bishnoi gang

A CBC investigation had previously linked Khosa to the Bishnoi gang. He denied any such link.

The broadcaster investigated Cricket Canada and reported last month allegations of corruption, organised crime influence, and attempts at match-fixing.

The report said Khosa was connected to players who claimed to be part of the Bishnoi gang. These players, according to the report, threatened a member of the national men’s team last year.

Canada has declared the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist group. It has been linked to several crimes in the country, including acts of murder, shootings, extortion, and arson. Describing it as a transnational organisation, the Canadian government last year said the organisation operates primarily out of India and has a presence in diaspora communities in Canada. The gang is said to be run by jailed Indian gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

This is not the first time Cricket Canada executives have been targeted. In February and March, the Calgary home of a former board member was shot at in two separate incidents. Three men have been charged in the case, while a fourth suspect remains at large.

There is no indication yet that the shootings in Surrey and Calgary are linked.
