Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating an incident in which shots were fired outside a business in Cloverdale Thursday afternoon (May 21).
SPS officers responded to a report of gunshots near 58 Avenue and 176 Street, at approximately 2:24 pm.
Officers discovered at least one business damaged by the gunshots, but no injuries have been reported.
At 2:47 pm, SPS officers also responded to a report of a vehicle on fire near 20 Avenue and 174 Street, but as yet investigators have not determined whether this incident is connected to the shots fired.
An SPS media release notes that the investigation is in its early stages and a motive for the shots fired has yet to be established, although the incident is not believed to be extortion-related.
SPS’s Major Crime Section (MCS) has taken over the lead on the investigation, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) will be in the area processing physical and digital evidence.
Traffic around the 58 Avenue and 175 Street intersection has been shut down while the scene is processed.
Anyone with information, including CCTV or dashcam footage – or who may know the identities of the suspects – is asked to contact SPS’ non-emergency line at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 26-50217 (SP).
