Guideway going up at Langley City’s future SkyTrain station

Another piece of the new SkyTrain guideway was built in Langley on the Victoria Day long weekend, and more segments are expected in the coming weeks.
The intersection of 203 Street and Industrial Avenue was closed early in the long weekend while a span of the guideway was built just west of the intersection, according to the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
Although the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Project had warned that the intersection might be closed through the whole of the long weekend, the work was finished early and the road was opened ahead of schedule.
While most of the guideway along the 16 km route is being raised into place by huge gantries – the Langley Launcher is heading east from 184 Street in Surrey and will build most of the Langley segment – the contractor for the future stations is responsible for the final 250 metres of the guideway into the Langley City station.
The contractor decided to use pre-cast concrete beams for this section of the guideway, and this segment was the first of several to be installed.
“The remaining spans in this area, including the span over 203 Street, are planned to be installed in late May/early June,” said the Ministry statement. “Once the schedule is confirmed, the project will issue a notification to the community.”
