SkyTrain beam work means hour-long traffic stoppages on Surrey highway

Motorists who drive Fraser Highway, take note: Delivery and installation of beams for the future SkyTrain guideway will mean overnight traffic stoppages in Surrey over the next few months.
Builders of the Surrey-Langley line warn of single-lane alternating traffic from 168 Street to 184 Street to prepare areas for beam installation Sunday to Thursday nights, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
From May 28 to late-September, “intermittent traffic stoppages of up to one hour” will happen from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.,” the project website says.
Work is scheduled overnight to reduce daytime traffic impacts.
“Business and residential access will be maintained, with traffic control prioritizing local access near active work areas. Temporary increases in noise are expected; mitigation measures will be in place.”
All eight stations along the Surrey Langley SkyTrain extension are under construction, with progress visible above ground at Fleetwood and Green Timbers stations.
The project will extend the Expo Line 16 kilometres, primarily along Fraser Highway from King George station in Surrey to 203 Street in Langley.
The Ministry of Transportation says construction on the guideway foundation for the extension is almost complete, as is 75 per cent of the guideway column work.
Once the extension opens in late 2029, it will take just over an hour to travel from Langley City Centre to Waterfront Station in Vancouver.
