The City of Calgary has begun sending roughly 600,000 property tax bills to homeowners and businesses, with payments due on June 30.
Property owners who do not receive their bill by June 1 are asked to call 311 for a statement.
A seven per cent penalty will be added to any unpaid balance starting July 1. The city notes the late penalty still applies even if a bill does not arrive in the mail.
Residents can now view their current tax bill, along with the previous four years, online through calgary.ca/mytax.
Several payment options are available, including the monthly Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP). Those who join TIPP by June 30 are not subject to the tax deadline.
Property taxes fund both municipal services and provincial education. For every residential tax dollar collected, 42 per cent goes to the Government of Alberta and 58 per cent stays with the City to support police, fire, transit, roads, housing, parks, recreation and infrastructure.
A detailed breakdown of municipal spending is available at calgary.ca/taxcalculator.
