A 49-year-old man is dead after his vehicle crashed into a water truck that was parked on a west Winnipeg street early Friday afternoon.
Officers responded to a report of a collision between a 2020 Hyundai Kona sports utility vehicle and a parked water truck on Cavalier Drive, just north of Hillary Crescent, around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Winnipeg police said in a news release.
First responders were extricating the SUV’s driver — a 49-year-old man — when police arrived. He was seriously injured and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Traffic division investigators said the SUV was driving northbound on Cavalier Drive at a high rate of speed when it drove directly into the parked water truck, the release said.
The water truck’s operator was taken to hospital in stable condition.
Police said the traffic division is investigating the crash and the driver’s autopsy is pending.
