The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has been called in to investigate after a police cruiser collided with another vehicle on Thursday in Edmonton’s north end.
A woman was treated for serious — but not life threatening — injuries and a police officer was treated for minor injuries following the collision on 118 Street at Wayne Gretzky Drive around 11 p.m. The police vehicle, en route to another collision call, had its emergency lights and siren activated at the time, police said in a news release Friday.
An investigation is also underway into that original call, in which a separate driver fled police only to crash into a brick wall.
Police say they witnessed a vehicle driving dangerously on 137 Avenue and 66 Street around 11 p.m. and attempted to do a traffic stop, but the vehicle sped off.
Officers did not pursue the vehicle, which eventually made its way to the area of 118 Avenue. There, the driver lost control, driving through a parking lot and ultimately hitting a brick wall and garbage bin.
Police say the driver initially refused to leave the vehicle but was eventually arrested and charged with criminal flight and dangerous driving.
