The Edmonton Valley Zoo is welcoming three new wolf pups to its pack.
Parents Aspen and Tundra welcomed the three Hudson Bay pups earlier this week.
“It’s very exciting,” said Maya Moreley, an animal care crew lead with the zoo.
“We have suspected it for about a month, but the first time they emerged from the den was just the other day, so we were able to get our first sight of them.”
The pups have started exploring outside their den and may be visible to zoo visitors.
The zoo advises that glimpses of the pups may be brief as the den is located on a hill toward the back of the R. Mollot Arctic Wolf Habitat.
The pups will need time to acclimate, as the zoo says they are born blind and completely dependent on their parents.

Tundra and Aspen became acquainted in the fall of 2025 as the zoo was working to introduce new wolves to the pack.
“They were finally introduced into a cohesive pack in the fall of 2025 and you want to do that before breeding season, so you get all their relationships kind of sorted out, and they get a chance to get to know each other,” Moreley said.
“We saw some breeding behaviour and some courtship behaviour, but we weren’t able to confirm anything until basically this week.”
